How often to wash hair for growth bet a lot of you had a debate with your mum, best friend, and hairdresser about how often you should wash your hair. Some people say every day, others say once a week and some say don’t wash your hair!​  It can definitely get a bit confusing and misleading.

Let’s cover the importance of hair washing. It definitely removes all the dirt, because we are constantly exposed to different pollutants and it also removes sweat that builds up around the hairline. In addition, if you enjoy using a variety of hair care products you also nourish your hair with different compounds by maintaining the healthy shine and structure of your hair fiber (if you don’t care what are you putting on your hair, as long it is not a hand soap I think you are still doing a good job looking after it). ​ I used to wash my hair every single day and I used to get annoyed with people saying that everyday wash is unhealthy and I would just think, how come it is unhealthy?! How often to wash hair for growth? I don’t want to carry dirt on my scalp for several days, plus I love that fresh feeling of washed hair (this was all before I started my Ph.D.).

Anyway, a few years later I realized that I am spending a fortune on haircare by washing every day and applying different conditioners and oils. I read more about dry shampoos and I thought I should try to wash my hair every other day and guess what – it did work for me! With time my hair became a lot more silkier and stronger and I started having a lot fewer split ends (I am not going to cover how much money and time I started saving!).

From my personal experience washing once or twice a week is the key to maintaining healthy hair, but I thought I need to find more facts and scientifically prove why is it better to avoid washing hair every single day

Tap water that we use when we shower contains magnesium and calcium, however, tap water can also contain copper, which from time to time can accumulate from the root to the tip in the cuticle and the core of the hair. Have you ever wondered how to ‘train’ your hair and be able to wash it twice or once a week? How often to wash hair for growth? This worked very well for me, so if you are keen to change your daily haircare routine give it a go and see what happens.

First month: Washed my hair in the morning and the next morning I used dry shampoo. The day after I washed my hair and again the same.

About a month/two later: Washed my hair in the morning, the next day left it as it was and the next day I applied dry shampoo

About four months later: Washed my hair in the morning, for two days left as it was (except if I was going to the gym I would use dry shampoo) and then a dry shampoo for the last day. For more informative blogs visit Wikipedia
